Since her detainment in a Japanese American Internment Camp during World War II, Yuri Kochiyama has been an advocate for the oppressed, and a leader in the struggle for civil rights since the 1960s. Her memoir, Passing It On, is a notable book on gender and racial equality. Her biography, Heartbeat of Struggle, is enlightening and inspiring to a younger generation of Asian-Americansocial activists.
Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month has begun, so DIY-Danna is featuring quotations, art, calligraphy, and facts about Asian & Pacific Americans - from artists to human rights activists who dare to make a difference.
